Doreen was born and grew up in Abertridwr, Caerphilly. Doreen had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She had a fun childhood with her brothers and sisters. Doreen's older sister and younger brother died as children, her sister was 12 and her brother was about 10 months old. Doreen used to stick up for her sister, as she was the tom boy one and her sister who passed away, was a proper girlie, mum (Doreen), used to tell me about some of the fights she used to get into over her sister Nancy. When Doreen went to school, she took her younger sister with her, that's how it was back then, she would rather take her sister to school rather than have time off. Mum was generous to all, if she'd got it, you could have it. Mum has 6 children, 5 daughters and 1 son. Doreen has 13 grandchildren and 18 great granchildren with 1 on the way.
